Mackay Children and Family Centre (MCFC) is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service which provides access to integrated early childhood education and care, parenting and family support and child maternal health services. Our centre incorporates a Long Day Care Centre and a Hub, that are designed to work together as an integrated unit.

Join our family

We are now looking for a full time Indigenous Community Liaison Officer to join our team for an immediate start.

This role will see you building strong relationships with local community organisations, indigenous groups, and families to deliver the required outcomes of the Community Child Care Fund (CCCF) Grant program.

Each day at the MCFC could see you:

  • Growing the understanding of the importance of early childhood within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community for strong early childhood development.
  • Provide a strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander presence to support families to feel welcome, where their culture and family is respected.
  • Support educators so they can lead strong culturally sensitive and relevant programs.
  • Support families to access agencies in the community and to work with agencies to promote attendance at the service, including other community services (health and well-being, legal, or other assistance).
  • Identify early childhood partnerships that already exist within the community and partner with them.
  • Increase enrolments at nominated C&K service, and/or assist with introductions to surrounding C&K services where places may be available.
  • Transport families and children as and when needed to access required early childhood and community services, such as immunisation or education programs.
  • Support local events and strategies to raise awareness about the importance of a strong start through early childhood education and care attendance and participation.

The salary range for this position is $77,580 - $83,480 per annum pro rata under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Industry Award to be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience, plus superannuation.

This is an Identified Position, and you MUST identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent OR be able to provide a reference from a member of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community that demonstrates cultural competence and ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

You will also need:

  • A strong knowledge and understanding of Cultural Protocols coupled with a sound knowledge of interpersonal and communication skills to engage and interact with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in Mackay and surrounding communities.
  • A Current open Drivers Licence
  • A Current Paid Blue Card (or willing to obtain one)
