About the role:

The Crèche and Kindergarten Association Limited (C&K) is a not-for-profit early childhood provider with more than 330 early childhood education and care services located across Queensland. C&K acknowledges that each child and family has unique early education and care requirements and so we provide a range of different programs including childcare, kindergarten, limited hours and outside school hours’ care.

We are currently looking for a Manager to join our amazing team at Mackay Children & Family Centre - Hub. This is a permanent full-time based in Mackay. Working 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

As the Manager, you will be reporting to the Early Childhood Education Manager. The purpose of this role is to lead the efficient and effective management of C&K’s operation of the Mackay Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander family and Child Hub (Mackay CFC), to enable the delivery of high-quality and financially viable early childhood services and programs in line with C&K’s vision, values and strategic priorities, and compliant with relevant legislation, regulations, education standards, funding requirements, and C&K policies, procedures and operational standards. Leads an integrated approach to deliver quality early childhood services and programs, across areas including education, child health and wellbeing, and business management.

This will include key relationships with the Lead Practitioner, who will provide the CFC Manager with advice on Community linkages and protocols, as well as occasionally acting up in the Manager’s position where required and the Long Day Care (LDC) Director, who will manage the operations of the childcare centre.

Role responsibilities

  • Lead the Mackay CFC to ensure it is an integrated service, by building strong linkages between the CFC LDC and Hub, as well as between the partnering agencies.
  • Promote and raise the profile of the Mackay CFC within the community and build and maintain relationships within the sector and the community.
  • Lead, supervise and develop a strong outcomes focused team that is aligned with C&K values and strategy.
  • Apply effective communication and leadership strategies to engage staff and facilitate collaboration and a team approach across the hub.
  • Develop, implement, maintain and monitor operational plans and budgets
  • Assist the Early Childhood Education Manager (ECEM) and Lead Practitioner to develop protocols, policies, procedures and infrastructure that support the delivery of an excellent program and service.
  • Oversee the local community advisory committees/consortiums, in collaboration with the Community Engagement Coordinator.
  • Provide support the negotiation of agreements or Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with partners and maintain positive ongoing relationships.
  • Oversee the development of programs/services in response to local child, family and community needs.
  • Work with the Central & North Region Early Childhood Education Team (Regional Manager, ECEM, Wellbeing & Inclusion Advisor and Education Practice Advisor). 
  • Work effectively with the Managers of C&K Departments.
  • Model occupational health and safety behaviours, understand and promote risk management and assessment, equity and inclusion and comply with associated organisational policies.

 Ideal applicants will have:

  • Bachelor of Social Work (4-year degree) - or relevant tertiary qualification and Diploma of Business Management or relevant community service management experience.
  • Must identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent OR be able to provide a reference from a member of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community that demonstrates cultural competence and ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Demonstrated experience in managing, mentoring, and supporting early childhood education and care services/programs to deliver high-quality outcomes and in building a capable and engaged workforce
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to facilitate acteam collaboration and cooperation to achieve best practice outcomes
  • Skills, capability, and experience in exploring options and implementing innovative strategies to support and manage service delivery and business outcomes including analysing trends and data; developing and maintaining effective relationships/partnerships and engaging with research and best practice
  • A demonstrated understanding of the contemporary issues facing Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people and the impacts these issues have on Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people societies and cultures
  • A high level of interpersonal skills including written & oral communication skills, a demonstrated ability to influence, a confident and professional manner and a strong customer service focus.
